How To Beat The Final Boss In Remnant 2
The final boss of Remnant 2, Annihilation, has three distinct phases you have to beat to officially complete a campaign run or Adventure Mode roll.
Annihilation is the final boss of Remnant 2, serving as the last challenge for your character to beat as the physical manifestation of The Root's corruption. This fight takes place in three phases, each designed to test your mastery of the weapons, armor, and abilities you have equipped with your archetype class. By far the hardest enemy to face in the game, Annihilation pulls no punches and can be challenging to take down.
Depending on the difficulty selected for your campaign or Adventure Mode roll, Annihilation's health and damage dealt could be highly different. For example, some attacks from the final boss have the chance to one-shot your character on Apocalypse difficulty but not on Veteran or Nightmare. One of the best ways to approach this fight is to assemble a balanced group of archetypes in Remnant 2's co-op multiplayer.
Annihilation has two phases with full health bars before a final survival phase that pits waves of enemy minions against your character. There are weak points to the creature during the fight, one on its head in the first phase and another on their human body once you get to the second phase. Class archetypes in Remnant 2 that cause debuffs can be crucial against this boss, using perks and skills to make it easier to hit these critical spots.
The Annihilation boss may be found at the very end of a campaign run in the Blackened Citadel Location of the Root Earth world.
Long Guns are some of the best weapons to use against Annihilation since their main body floats above the battlefield for most of the fight. Some attacks will occasionally give you a window for melee weapons, but mid to long-range guns will constantly be able to deal damage. The Gunslinger in Remnant 2 has perhaps the best abilities for this battle by giving you automatic reloads for weapons, allowing you to apply DPS constantly.
Appearing through a hole in the most corrupted region of Root Earth in Remnant 2, Annihilation flies around in the sky, summoning energy orbs and wielding a massive sword. The attack patterns here are slower, giving you opportunities to dodge or evade with the right timing. Use the space of the arena to avoid the boss' projectiles while trying not to lose sight of Annihilation as they try and get around you with their sword.
Annihilation 1st Phase Move List
Attack
Description
Lunging Stab
Annihilation tries to get around your character before slamming their sword downward. The boss does this multiple times in a row.
Energy Shockwave
The boss flies to the back of the arena before summoning an energy orb in its right hand that it strikes into the ground, creating a shockwave from the orb's center. You can dodge this by evading the source of the wave.
Sword Impale
The Rot creature's sword stabs into the ground two or three times, creating multiple AoE energy waves that root your character into place if you get hit.
Homing Orbs
At 75% of their phase 1 health bar, Annihilation will generate two sets of three orbs that track your character, dealing damage on impact. Shooting one orb from these groups takes the rest down.
Sword Thrust
The boss winds up their sword before launching forward in an incredibly quick attack that deals heavy damage.
Depleting the first health bar of Annihilation in Remnant 2 leads to a cutscene that places you in a completely different boss arena than before. This stage is smaller, restricting your character's movement in a sci-fi-themed battlefield that can be tricky to navigate. Not only does the boss come into this part of the fight with new moves, but they can also switch into their 1st phase form at will, so stay on guard.
Annihilation 2nd Phase Move List
Attack
Description
Glitch
Both Annihilation and the boss arena change back into the same form that they were during the 1st phase. The attacks used from the previous part of the fight remain the same.
Tentacle Slam
The boss strikes one of its large tentacles into the ground near your character, creating a cloud of Blight that lingers in that space.
Sword Swing
Annihilation swipes their sword along the grid of the battlefield, and usually follows up this attack with Tentacle Slam for a quick combo that can one-shot most characters.
Root Orbs
At 50% health, the boss can summon groups of orbs in the air in the exact same way as the Homing Orbs from phase 1. However, these are harder to see as they spawn directly above your character.
By far, the most dangerous aspect of Phase 2 is the clouds of Blight that linger after the Tentacle Slam attack. Dangerous status effects in Remnant 2 have a variety of nasty debuffs that can only be removed by using a specific item from your inventory. Make sure your character comes equipped with a resistant type of armor, ring, or the right salves to cure these negative conditions if you get caught in that attack.
A final cutscene plays between The Keeper and Clementine NPCs before transitioning to the last struggles of Annihilation, where it has now become an infected mass of corruption. Wave after wave of enemies controlled by The Root in Remnant 2 will attack your character for a reasonable amount of time.
The only objective here is to survive as long as you can until the boss fight finishes.
There are no tricks to the last phase, so hold out for as long as you can with your character and whatever allies you may be teamed up with. Taking down the boss awards you with 6 Lumenite Crystals, Scrap, a Tome of Knowledge in Remnant 2, the Forgotten Memory, and the Broken Compass item. The Compass can be used as a crafting material to unlock the Explorer, a secret archetype.
The Forgotten Memory may be used to build Alpha-Omega, a ridiculously powerful Long Gun whose ability brands targets for extra damage. The achievement "Forever is a Long Time Coming" also unlocks when you beat the final boss of Remnant 2, who you might encounter again on another run with a different class.
