How To Beat Gremishkas In Baldur’s Gate 3
Gremishkas are a cat-like creature in Baldur's Gate 3 that can be difficult to beat due to their Magical Allergy, making spells more risky.
Throughout Baldur's Gate 3, the party will encounter an endless amount of enemies that must be dealt with in order to progress, and one of these enemies includes Gremishkas. A Gremishka is a cat-like creature that is the result of a failed magic user's attempt to create life and because of this, they're absolutely feral.
Gremishkas don't do large amounts of damage, per se, but their gimmicks are what make them dangerous. Often, they're not going to be found alone, but rather in packs. So what wouldn't have been much of a threat becomes a much larger one. Additionally, they've got a little secret when it comes to magic in Baldur's Gate 3 that makes them even more of a nuisance.
First and foremost, one of the easiest locations to look for Gremishkas is the Rosymorn Monastery. Near the waypoint for the area, climb up some nearby vines to discover a wooden barricade blocking an entrance to the second floor. Destroy the barricade and teleport in to find a nice little surprise waiting, a pack of Gremishkas. Though it might not be entirely obvious why anyone would willingly seek these creatures out, they actually provide an ingredient that can prove very useful later on. Now that the party knows where to find them, it's best to make sure they're prepared in advance.
As stated, Gremishkas have a little gimmick when it comes to magic, which makes them more dangerous. Rather than completely nullifying the use of magic to where players are restricted from using it, Gremishkas dare the party to attempt magic against them. Due to their Magical Allergy, they will literally begin exploding if magic or cantrips are used, and not just against them, but anywhere near them, so even healing magic is not a good idea.
Also, as a fun little treat, they have the ability to turn invisible and will likely begin their ambush with this, so be warned. Since magic is a no-go, that means that fighting them will come down to attacking with physical weapons in Baldur's Gate 3.
Before heading into the fight, drink a Potion of See Invisibility or cast See Invisibility, so that at least that part of the Gremishkas won't cause too much of a headache. Though the potion and spell are equally effective with a similar duration, the spell is easier to keep on hand. It's a Level 2 Divination spell in Baldur's Gate 3 that's learned easily, so having someone in the party equipped with it is far easier than worrying about obtaining or stealing potions. Be warned, however, that Gremishkas can polymorph into a panther if given enough power. This form is considered the Gremishkas mature form.
If the two previously mentioned invisibility options are not readily available, or players are looking for something a little more reliable, then the Volo Ersatz Eye item can also be utilized to help reveal the Gremishka. It is the easiest method as it requires one simple quest and procedure to permanently receive the benefit. However since it is a permanent ability, this means that it cannot be undone once the procedure to place it is completed. It is optional, but the benefits could save players some time and headaches later.
Note that the Volo Ersatz Eye is a procedure that will affect the physical appearance of the character. Once it is placed, only one eye will resemble what was designed in character creation, however, since players can customize their character at any point, this should not be too much of a concern for players. The benefit of seeing invisible things throughout Baldur's Gate 3 without the need for potions or spells greatly outweighs any cons of equipping the Volo Ersatz Eye.
As stated, due to their Magic Allergy, physical attacks are going to be the way to go here. For those who chose the Baldur's Gate 3 barbarian class at the start of their playthrough, you're in luck. These enemies will be significantly easier to fight as they are weak to a barbarian's many strengths.
As for everyone else who may be carrying rather weak weapons, including the rest of the party, this is going to be a little tougher. If Lae'zel is in the party at this point, she works rather well in this situation as a fighter and should prove pretty useful.
For those desperate to use spells in Baldur's Gate 3 to defeat the Gremishkas, there is a way to do so without creating a chaotic mess and that is to use long-range spells that can deal damage while keeping the party safe. Something like Magic Missile will allow for enough distance that the repercussions of using magic are not nearly as detrimental. Regardless of how players go about defeating them, know that these enemies are tougher than they initially appear. However, once defeated, they will provide something of value, Gremishka Tail.
The Gremishka Tail is the reward given for defeating the enemy. It doesn't feel like much given what a pain these Baldurs Gate 3 enemies are in the long run, but it's still something. It can actually be used to create Wizardsbane Oil. The Wizardsband Oil Potion is a coating item that is created by extracting the essence from 3 Gremishka Tails and combining it with any suspension. This potion actually becomes unlocked after removing the essence from Gremishka Tails. After it is created, it can prove to assist the party in being more effective towards magic.
Staying true to the nature of the Gremishka, the potion is used as a coating for physical weapons in Baldur's Gate 3. After a weapon has been equipped with it, any target will receive a -3 penalty to Spell attack rolls and Spell save DC. Additionally, they will also receive a disadvantage on saving throws for maintaining their concentration for 2 of their turns. Therefore, it might be worth tracking down a couple of these enemies to build up a small supply of Gremishka Tails whenever encountering them in Baldur's Gate 3.
