10 Marvel Villains Strong Enough To Beat The MCU's New Most Powerful Hero

Dec 04, 2023

Secret Invasion introduced G'iah as the MCU's newest and most powerful hero, but there are several iconic Marvel villains who could still defeat her.

There are several iconic villains who could take on the newest and most powerful hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Secret Invasion's G'iah. Emilia Clarke debuted as G'iah in Secret Invasion, initially depicted as a simple member of the Skrull rebellion before she was enhanced with samples of Extremis, Thor: The Dark World's Frost Beast, Cull Obsidian, and Guardians of the Galaxy member Groot. Secret Invasion's finale then saw G'iah enhanced with DNA samples from a plethora of other MCU characters, all contained within the Harvest, which granted her the same abilities as some of the MCU's most powerful heroes and villains.

Imbued with DNA from Nick Fury's Harvest in Secret Invasion, G'iah proved herself to be one of the - if not the - most powerful characters in the MCU. Now having control over the powers of Steve Rogers, Carol Danvers, Thanos, T'Challa, and Bruce Banner, among many others, G'iah seems basically unbeatable, so any villain would perhaps be foolish to go up against her, should G'iah return in the MCU's future. However, there are several iconic villains from both the MCU and Marvel Comics that may be powerful enough to defeat the Super Skrull. Here are ten examples of Marvel villains strong enough to take on Secret Invasion's G'iah.

James Spader voiced Ultron in Phase 2's Avengers: Age of Ultron, an artificial intelligence created by Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, intended to be a peace-keeping force protecting the Earth. Ultron's ambition to protect the planet led to him wanting to eliminate humanity from it, however, and it took the combined might of the Avengers to take him down. While this may suggest that G'iah would be able to easily defeat Ultron, it wasn't the Avengers' strength that thwarted the villain, but their genius-level intellects and Stark's technology, which G'iah doesn't have access to. Unfortunately, her power alone wouldn't be enough to take down Ultron and his drone army.

Will Poulter debuted as Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and in Marvel Comics, Adam has an evil future self known as the Magus. Adam's god-like power rivals that of the Super Skrull G'iah, so an evil version of the MCU's new Guardian of the Galaxy would surely be enough to at least match G'iah in battle. In Marvel Comics, the Magus expresses abilities such as energy manipulation, time manipulation, rapid healing, life-force absorption, telepathy, and telekinesis, among many others. If he is introduced in the MCU's future, the Magus would certainly be strong enough to defeat G'iah, even with her multitude of new powers.

Annihilus debuted in Marvel Comics' 1968 run of Fantastic Four Annual #6, depicted as a tyrant ruling over the Negative Zone. A nihilist who will let nothing stand in the way of him extending his lifespan, Annihilus is a remarkably powerful character who hasn't yet been adapted for the live-action MCU. Through prolonged exposure to the Cosmic Control Rod, Annihilus gained god-like powers, but by far his most terrifying is his ability to self-replicate. This means that, no matter how many times he's killed, he can resurrect himself, making him a formidable and unstoppable threat that not even Secret Invasion's G'iah could live up to.

Mephisto is an incredibly powerful extradimensional demon who resides over a hell dimension in Marvel Comics, depicted as the traditional visual concept of the Devil. Mephisto has been rumored to be making his appearance in the MCU since the onset of Phase 4, with theories previously suggesting he would appear in WandaVision, before suggesting Mephisto could debut in Ironheart or Agatha: Coven of Chaos. As a demon, Mephisto is immortal, and his other abilities including shape-shifting, reality manipulation, and precognition would render G'iah's strength-based powers all but useless. A battle between Mephisto and G'iah would certainly be a spectacle to watch, but it wouldn't end in success for the Super Skrull.

En Sabah Nur is an ancient mutant in Marvel Comics known as Apocalypse, rising to power after the Celestials enhanced his form, heightening his shape-shifting, matter manipulation, and self-replication abilities to god-like levels. His Celestial enhancements grant him powers that put G'iah's abilities to shame, allowing him to have lived for thousands of years and be worshiped as a god by many cultures. Apocalypse has fought the likes of Kang, the X-Men, the Avengers, and Dracula, even going so far as to decapitate the latter. G'iah would clearly be no match for Apocalypse, and since he could be debuting in the MCU soon given Phase 4 and 5's X-Men teases, it's possible this battle could occur.

MCU audiences have only been gifted a glimpse of Dormammu in 2016's Doctor Strange. The ruler of the Dark Dimension, Dormammu is imbued with magical abilities and is practically indestructible and immortal. In Marvel Comics, Dormammu effortlessly defeated the likes of the Avengers, the X-Men, Thor, and Doctor Strange, though it was the latter's ingenious time-loop plan in Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange that saw him best the villain - though he was killed several times. Dormammu's power is incomprehensible compared to G'iah's, so she would be no match for the Dark Dimension ruler in the MCU, though it seems unlikely the pair will ever cross paths.

Mister Sinister is one of the most legendary adversaries to Marvel Comics' X-Men. Starting as a Victorian genetic scientist, Nathaniel Essex became Mister Sinister after being imbued with mutant abilities thanks to guidance from Apocalypse. Sinister experimented on mutants and manipulated their lives in an effort to understand his obsession better. Sinister's command over genetic science would mean he'd perhaps be fascinated with G'iah's new biology, and would surely want to use her in his experiments. His telepathy, telekinesis, and immortality would make it impossible for G'iah to defeat him, though their battle would still be exciting to watch in the MCU.

Galactus could soon be introduced to the MCU, especially taking into account the rumors of him debuting in Phase 6's Fantastic Four as an enemy to the titular team. Originally from a universe before the Marvel Universe was established, Galactus has abilities unimaginable to the citizens of Marvel Comics. Galactus' power-set is extensive and impressive, and gives him the same level of power as a practical god in Marvel Comics. If the villain keeps these abilities in the MCU, Galactus would be a formidable adversary even more terrifying than Thanos, Kang the Conqueror, or any other MCU villain. As such, G'iah wouldn't stand a chance against the planet-eating Galactus.

Jean Grey was a prominent member of the X-Men in Marvel Comics, but during The Dark Phoenix Saga, she was replaced by the Phoenix Force, which assumed her form and joined the X-Men in her place. "Phoenix" became corrupted after a period with the X-Men, eventually losing control and transforming into a force of total destruction. Not only does Phoenix threaten the lives of her fellow X-Men, but she also commits genocide after destroying an entire planetary system, eventually leading to her suicide. Secret Invasion's G'iah would be no match for the Dark Phoenix's incredible level of power, as the Phoenix could wipe out the MCU's hero in an instant.

Josh Brolin's Thanos may have been defeated by the combined might of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but there's a chance Thanos could return in the MCU's future. With the Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos became the universe's most powerful being, able to wipe out half the population of the universe with the snap of his fingers. Although Captain Marvel was able to hold her own against Thanos - and G'iah now has Captain Marvel's abilities - Thanos' use of the Power Stone quickly disabled the cosmic hero. Since this is the case, if the Marvel Cinematic Universe once more faced an attack of this level from Thanos, it seems not even G'iah could defeat him.
